How accurate is HPV self-testing?
Research shows HPV self-testing is as accurate as clinician-collected samples, provided instructions are followed carefully.
HPV testing is now considered a more sensitive screening method than Pap smears. If your HPV test is negative, you may not need a Pap smear immediately. If positive, your doctor may recommend a Pap smear or colposcopy for further evaluation.
No — most women find the swab test painless or only mildly uncomfortable, much less invasive than a traditional Pap smear.
Women aged 30 to 69 should screen once every 5 years with HPV testing (if results are negative), according to international and local guidelines.
A positive result doesn’t mean you have cervical cancer. It means the virus is present, and your doctor will guide you on next steps, which may include a Pap smear, colposcopy, or monitoring.
Subsidies and MediSave may apply under the Screen for Life programme for eligible Singaporean women. Our clinic staff will advise you on available options.
